Cubasis 3 has been released: The mobile DAW from Steinberg was rewritten from scratch

Simply put, Steinberg released its latest, completely newly developed version of mobile DAW Cubasis with iPhone support and more than 20 new users desired features.

Steinberg released a new version of the mobile music recording program, Cubasis 3. In the press release we’ve found out that Cubase for iOS has been completely rewritten.

Steinberg Cubasis has become faster, the workflow has been improved, and also incorporates a lot of new features and functions that users have long been asking for. Moreover, Cubasis 3 is now distributed as a universal application and cross platform app, so that mobile DAW can be used not only on the iPad, but also on the iPhone.

The versatility of the mobile app is one of the main features of the third version of the mobile DAW from Steinberg. Users can start the project on the iPhone, and then continue to work on the iPad, and vice versa. At any time, the project file can be exported to a computer running Windows and macOS to work on the track more fully. According to Steinberg, with the release of Cubasis 3, musicians, music producers and sound engineers finally have a seamless workspace that is virtually independent of which device and operating system they are working on.

“After more than 30 free Cubasis updates for the previous two versions, it’s time to reveal what the team has been working on for quite some time now — Cubasis 3, a completely new app. Not only did we rewrite Cubasis 3 from scratch, we also had to rethink the app itself so that it looks and performs perfectly on the iPhone. It is a huge step forward with iPhone support and more than twenty user-requested features. And I’m very proud of our team who pulled it off, delivering the best version to date with Cubasis 3.” says Lars Slowak the Steinberg marketing manager.

A lot of new features in Steinberg Cubasis 3

The third version of the portable music recording program received more than 20 new features, most of which users have long asked for on the support forums. So DAW learned to work with groups of tracks and combine several tracks into one directory – the function works exactly the same as on the desktop version of Cubase. In addition to combining similar tracks in a single group, users can process groups as a whole.

Another major innovation of Steinberg Cubasis 3 is the addition of eight assignable inserts and effect buses. Users can now assign to them not only the built-in DAW processing, but also plug-ins of other developers, if they are delivered in AU v3 format and support Inter-App Audio technology for exchanging audio information between several applications.

Inserts work in two modes: Pre-Fader and Post-Fader. The order of effects placed on inserts is now freely configurable: by holding a finger with any effect in the list and dragging it higher or lower, users can change the location of the treatments in the effect chain. The developers also note that Cubasis 3 comes with 75 new presets for built-in effects, and the work of third-party plug-ins can now be automated.

In addition to this, the mobile DAW has received numerous improvements in the field of working with MIDI and audio content, as well as improved automation mechanisms. Audio can now be recorded in Overdub and Looper modes. A new rollback function is also noted: now the familiar Undo is associated with a special window that displays a list of all the latest user actions.

Steinberg Cubasis 3 interface received new zoom and display modes, which allows you to adjust the scale and behavior of almost all the elements on the screen. Mixer channel sizes are individually adjustable, and the mixer itself now opens in full screen mode for greater convenience. Steinberg noted that the metering was significantly improved – now information about the volume level is displayed more accurately. In addition, special user interface presets were built into the application, so the application automatically adapts to the screen sizes of all iPhone and iPad models.
